Privacy Policy
Siddur Plus · Effective May 27, 2026
Siddur Plus is built with privacy in mind. We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, or any account credentials. We never sell your data, and we do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
1. Who We Are
Siddur Plus is developed and operated by Sam Cohen, an individual developer ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains how the Siddur Plus iOS app and the supporting backend service at siddurplus.com handle information.
2. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Feedback messages. If you use the in-app feedback form, the message text you type is sent to our server and emailed to the developer. You may optionally include contact information; we do not require it.
- Shul selection. If you choose a shul from the in-app shul list, that selection is stored on your device and sent to our server so we can return the correct davening times.
Information Collected Automatically
- Anonymous user ID. On first launch, our server issues a random identifier (a UUID). This ID is stored locally on your device and used to associate your learning progress and usage records on the server. It is not linked to your Apple ID, email, name, or any other personal identifier.
- Learning progress. Your position within learning programs (Daf Yomi, Mishna Yomi, Tehillim Yomi, Rambam, Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, Aruch HaShulchan, Sefer HaMitzvos, Nach Yomi, Chofetz Chaim Yomi, daily mitzvah, and similar) is synced to our server using your anonymous ID so you can continue across devices.
- Usage statistics. The app records aggregate counts of usage statistics. These statistics are stored on your device and periodically synced to our server using your anonymous ID. They help us understand which features are used and improve the app.
- Device and request metadata. When the app communicates with our server, standard request metadata is processed (IP address, request timestamps, app version, iOS version). IP addresses are used for rate limiting and abuse prevention and are not used to build a profile of you.
Location
- With your permission, Siddur Plus uses your device location while the app is in use to calculate accurate zmanim (halachic times) and, if you use the compass feature, to indicate the direction of Yerushalayim.
- Your precise GPS coordinates are not transmitted to our server. They remain on your device and are used locally to compute times.
- The names of the cities you have visited (e.g., "New York, NY") are included in the aggregate daily usage statistics described above. We do not transmit street-level location, latitude/longitude, or movement history.
- You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services. The app will continue to function, but zmanim will require you to manually choose a location. Parts of the app that require accurate zmanim are not guaranteed to function properly
Notifications
If you enable notifications (for example, for Sefiras HaOmer or learning reminders), Siddur Plus schedules them locally on your device. We do not use push notifications and we do not send notifications from our servers.
3. Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address (unless you voluntarily include one in feedback), phone number, date of birth, or any payment information.
- We do not use third-party advertising networks, ad SDKs, or tracking pixels.
- We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, or any similar third-party analytics SDK.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone, camera, calendar, reminders, or health data.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites and we do not participate in any cross-app tracking framework.
4. How We Use Information
The limited information we collect is used to:
- Provide the core features of the app (zmanim, davening times, learning schedules).
- Sync your learning progress so you can pick up where you left off.
- Understand which features are used so we can improve the app.
- Respond to feedback you send us.
- Protect the service from abuse and ensure it operates reliably.
5. Third-Party Services
Siddur Plus relies on the following third parties. None of them receive any anonymous ID, usage data, or learning progress associated with you:
- Hebcal (hebcal.com) — Our server fetches Jewish calendar and daily learning schedule data from Hebcal. These requests are made by our server, not by your device.
- Shul websites — Our server scrapes publicly posted davening times from shul websites you select. These requests are made by our server, not by your device.
- Apple — The app is distributed through the App Store. Apple's own privacy policy governs that relationship.
6. Data Storage and Security
Server data is stored in a database on a private server. Communication between the app and our server occurs over HTTPS (TLS). We retain anonymous usage and learning records for as long as the anonymous identifier remains active. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the data, but no system is perfectly secure.
7. Your Choices and Rights
- Disable location. iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Siddur Plus.
- Disable notifications. iOS Settings › Notifications › Siddur Plus.
- Reset your anonymous identifier. Deleting and reinstalling the app discards your local identifier and issues a new one. Previously synced records remain associated with the old identifier and are not linkable to the new one.
- Request deletion. You can email us (see below) and ask us to delete the server-side records associated with your anonymous identifier. Because we do not collect personally identifying information, please include the anonymous identifier shown in the app's About screen so we can locate the correct record.
- EU / UK / California residents. Where applicable law (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) grants you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, or objection, you may exercise them by contacting us at the email below. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by these laws.
8. Children's Privacy
Siddur Plus is suitable for users of all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not collect names, email addresses, or other identifiers, the app does not target or profile children specifically. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the in-app feedback form and you would like it removed, please contact us.
9. International Users
The app and its supporting server are operated from the United States. By using Siddur Plus, you understand that data may be processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected in the app's release notes.
